ANR as Producer

ANR ventured out to production by being active in acting department. He established ‘Ashwini Pictures’ along with Anjali Devi, Adinarayana Rao, Makeup Artist Gopala Rao and some partners in the year 1951. They produced a folklore film called ‘Mayala Maari’ in Telugu and Tamil languages under the banner. Four years later, ANR established ‘Annapurna’ along with his godfather and mentor Dukkapati Narsimha Rao and made the film ‘Donga Ramudu’ during the year 1955. Thodi Kodallu, Velugu Needalu, Iddaru Mitrulu, Chaduvukunna Ammailu, Dr.Chakravarthy, Poolarangadu, Jai Jawaan, Amayakuralu, Vichitra Bandham, Bangaru Kalalu and so forth were made by ANR under his home production. He also established ‘Chakravathy’ banner along with Adurthi Subbarao and produced experimental films like ‘Sudigundalu’, ‘Maro Prapancham’ as well.


After leaving the partnership with Dukkapati Narsimha Rao, ANR established his own ‘Annapurna Studios’ in Hyderabad and made ‘Premabhishekam’ , ‘Sreeranga Neethulu’ from the own banner and he himself acted as the hero in them. He launched his son Nagarjuna with home production venture ‘Vikram’ and later gave the production and studio responsibilities to his descendants.
