The upcoming Hindi film, Bombay Velvet, a neo noir drama by filmmaker, Anurag Kashyap, has completed major parts of its shooting and is all set to release on the 28th of November, in 2014, after the post- production operations are completed. With just one sequence left to be shot in the city of Kolkata, the team of the film decided to make the release date official and announced it during a party to celebrate the end of the film. Initially, it was decided that the film would be released during the Christmas season. However, since the date was about to collide with the release date of another Bollywood film named P. K., it was decided that Bombay Velvet’s release would be preponed. According to Ranbir Kapoor, the male lead in the film, this film had been Anurag Kashyap’s dream project, and they could not afford to have it release with another film, so the decision about the preponing of the release date was taken.

Cast and crew:

Ranbir will be playing the role of a street fighter, an ordinary man tries hard to establish himself as a successful man against all odds. The film, which is about jazz clubs, will have Anushka Sharma play the role of a jazz singer, who will be seen romancing Ranbir. Filmmaker Karan Johar will be seen playing the main antagonist in the film, a Parsi media mogul. Although Johar has been seen making appearances on the silver screen before, those were only cameos. So, with Bombay Velvet, Johar will be making a full- blown acting debut. Supporting roles in the film will be played by Manish Choudhury, Raveena Tandon, Kay Kay Menon, Vivaan Shah and Siddhartha Basu among other noted actors.

As a neo noir drama, it attempts to capture the vices that were prevalent during this process, such as greed and violence. It also captures passions of love and jazz music, which can be said to have served as the motivations for the vices.Gyan Prakash has penned the script for the film along with other writers.

Initially, the film was to be produced by Viacom18, but later, Fox Star Studios and Phantom Films co- produced. The film has been directed by Anurag Kashyap who has also written the screenplay of the film, along with Karan Johar and Vikramaditya Motwane.

Music :

Music will play a very important part in the film, since it largely captures the essence of the Jazz era. Amit Trivedi, noted for his work in Dev D, has been roped in to compose the soundtrack for the film, while the songs have been penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya, Trivedi’s frequent collaborator. Singer Neeti Mohan has lent her voice to Anushka Sharma’s character, Rosie, who is a Jazz singer. Singer Mohit Chauhan has lent the male voice to all the songs in the film.
