Introduction and early life
Zohra sehgal was an Indian actress and a well-known choreographer. She basically started his career with uday Shankar as a dance. She got many golden opportunities to perform in big countries like United States and Japan. She had a large career time of approximately 60 years. In this huge span she had appeared in various hit Bollywood films. She was born in Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh on 27th of April in the year 1912 in a traditional Muslim family. She had six other brothers and sisters. Then she was brought up in Dehradun. She was very fond of playing games. She was famous with other names like sahibzadi Zohra begum Mumtaz Ullah khan. In her life after her husband expired she became the director of the natya academy. After some time she shifted to London too and had a meeting with Ram Gopal which led her to become a teacher in Uday Shankar style in his school Chelsea.
Career and awards
She was basically engaged in the fields of acting, dancing and choreography. She was active in the years 1935 to 2007. She recently passed away on 10th of July in the present year 2014.
She has done many famous and hit bollywood things like bhaji on the beach in the year 1992, the mystic masseur in the year 2001, band it like beckham in 2002, dil se in 1998, saawariya and cheeni kum in 2007. She has worked in various tv series the jewel in the crown in the year 1984, tandoori nights from the year 1985 to 1987 and amma and family in 1996. Even at the age of 90 years she performed as a lead character in a film shooted in the year 2002, chalo ishq ladaaye. In that movie being so old also she performed so many stunts and emotional scenes in the movie. She was also involved in the theatre for 14 years. She worked I Indian theatre, Indian people’s theatre association and also in Prithvi theatre. Her bend it like Beckham in which she acted was an English speaking film.
Her later life and death
She has also been awarded by many titles and awards like Padam Shri in 1998, Kalidaas Samman in the year 2001 and in 2004 she got sangeet natak akademi. She was honoured by a highest award called the sangeet natak akademi fellowship for her lifetime achievement. She also received Padma Vibhusan in the year 2010. She was also given the title of Laadli of the century and that ceremony was honoured by the chief minister of Delhi Sheila dixit. She was a great actor of the Indian film industry and did not let her old age and illness empower her. She was a heart patient and was also diagnosed with cancer in the year 1994. She was of 102 years. But recently she got admitted in max hospital in New Delhi in the saket area after she was caught with pneumonia on Wednesday. Then she died due to a cardiac arrest at half past four on Thursday. Her cremation took place on Friday. This great actress will always be remembered by all.
