It has been only a few odd weeks since Nagarjuna crossed the threhold into the intoxicating world of the small screen and now it looks like Amala Akkineni is going to follow in his footsteps. The actress is all prepared to make step into her roles for the first time ever on the small screen in a TV series which will be showcased later this year in Tamil. The actress, who is currently based in Chennai, has revealed some details of her role that she’s playing the role of a doctor in this much awaited TV series. She said that she has recently started shooting for the serial called “uyirmei” in the role of a doctor. She also clarified that since she has her feet into too many shoes and has been juggling so many hats that she does not take every project that comes her way. She generally waits for a good script to come her way before jumping into it. Apparently this new undertaking has been special for her. In this case, she said that when she first read the story she immediately fell in love with it and just couldn’t say no when later she was approached for the role. The complete story revolves around the daily happenings in the lives of 12 doctors. The series show their lives, patients and families and how they are interlinked.  Amala said that the show is being anticipated to go on air by the mid of August. The protagonist

Amala made her debut as an actress in the Tamil film ‘Mythili Ennai Kaathali’ which was directed by T. Rajendar and was a big box office hit. She had a charm about her which fixated with the cine goers and which helped her bag the next fifty roles. Her performance with Nagarjuna in Siva was unforgettable and was a huge hit. This brought her more fame and recognition which paved the path for her to star alongside iconic actors like Kamal Haasan, Prabhu, Rajinikanth, Mammootty, Chiranjeevi and Mohan Lal. Her Bollywood co-stars were Vinod Khanna, Mithun Chakraborty and Aditya Pancholi. She has also worked with respected directors like Mani Ratnam as well as Ram Gopal Varma. She stopped acting in 1992 after getting married to Nagarjuna, but again made a comeback in 2012 in the Telugu film Life is Beautiful. She has received a number of awards and accolades for her great and touching performances in the various films that she has acted in.

Other passions

She is married to Nagarjuna presently and has a son, Akhil. She practises Vipassana as taught by Buddha. Apart from films she is actively involved in fighting for and protecting animal right through the workings of her NGO. She is involved with 16 other NGOs as well. She is a vegetarian and a staunch environmentalist. She has set a mark for herself in the industry with her works.
