South Indian Film Industry and Filmfare Awards South

The film industry of the south of India is one of the biggest and the most well-known in the world of cinema. It is responsible largely for putting India in the map of cinema, especially in terms of the number of films produced by it. Some of the best films of India are produced in the Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam industries, cumulatively referred to as the film industry of South India. These films are not just glitz, glamour, action, comedy and romance. There are some extremely good movies that are technically sound and have a strong script. There are also some very talented artists in this industry. The Filmfare Awards South annually pays respect to the brilliant cast and crew members of the films who have toiled hard to create the best films of each year. This legacy has been going on for the last 61 years, and in 2014, the 61st Filmfare Awards South was held. Interestingly, these awards were initially introduced in India to only honour the Tamil and Telugu films, but, later, in 1966 and 1969, Malayalam and Kannada films became a part of this award ceremony, respectively.

The 61st Filmfare Awards ceremony, to honour the films made and released in the period of 2013-2014, was held on the 12th of July, 2014, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, in Chennai. According to the Hyderabad news and all other news from down south, the ceremony was celebrated with huge pomp and luxury. The colours and glamour on the red carpet was too hard to take away the eyes from, as members of the South Indian film industry came to the event, looking their best. The event was a mind- blowing success. The announcement of the award ceremony was earlier done by South Indian actor Dhanush, who is well-known for his acting skills, and has recently won the hearts of viewers from other parts of the country with his gig in the Bollywood. Dhanush is the winner of 4 filmfare awards. He was present at the ceremony, and so were all the other leadings stars of the industry, including Samantha, Mahesh Babu, Kamaal Hassan, and others, who graced the show with their presence. The award for the Best Tamil Film went to Thanga Meengal, and Best Telugu Film Award went to Attarintiki Daredi. Drishyam won the Best Malayalam Film Award goes and Mynaa recived the award for the Best Kannada Film. The show also honoured the best actors, actresses, directors, music composers, scriptwriters, technical members, and all others of the Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam film industries. The Idea Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award was issued in the name of Late Balu Mahendra, for his great contributions in the Tamil and Malayalam cinemas. It was presented to his family.
