Shashi Kapoor and the Indian film industry

Shashi Kapoor, being born on 18 March 1938 is an actor, a producer, and has also been in movie direction in the Indian film industry. His memorable contributions been made with the movies like “Deewar”, “Trishul”, ” Satyam Shivam Sundaram” as well as in ” Kabhi Kabhi” are among those movies which is still found to be a matter of captivation for the Indian Artists, Audiences as well as for the movie critics. Starting the brush ups of his talent by the age of four, he had been a part of plays under the direction of his father Prithviraj Kapoor. His child works in movies like “Aag” in 1948 and “Awaara” in 1951, were some of those which were the most appreciated ones.  In the lead role, he made his debut with the movie “Dharmputra” with a performance that overshadowed the cinema industry and further went on for over 100 Hindi movies being added to the glimpse of his career.Shashi Kapoor gets Dada Saheb Phalke Award

Splendid career

Shashi kapoor belongs to the family of renowned kapoors who have established their own name in the Indian Cinema. He along with his brothers Late Raj Kapoor and Shammi kapoor had been the stars of the golden days of Bollywood industry. Starting with his acting career in the late 1940s he became a popular name during the 60s, 70s up till the mid 80s. He was also among those few actors who went internationally known. With his acting skills being showcased in British as well as American movies like “The Householder” in 1963, “Heat and Dust“ in 1982, “Shakespeare Wallah” in 1965, The Householder” in 1963, and “Bombay Talkie” in  1970 under the Merchant Ivory Productions by James Ivory and Ismail Merchant. In addition he was also casted for “Siddhartha” in 1972 and “Muhafiz” in 1994.

He further set up his very own production house the Film Vlas and contributed to the film industry with his beautiful creations like “36 Chowringhee Lane” (1981), “Vijeta” (1982), “Utsav” (1984), “Junoon” (1978) and “Kalyug” (1981). Another gem in his honor was his production and direction work for the movie “Ajooba” with the leads being played by Rishi and the big B.

46th honored Dadasaheb Phalke Award

This year, the government has decided to honor, the great artist with Dadasaheb Phalke Award for all his great contributions made for the Indian Cinema industry. With applause coming from all over the country and appreciations running over every social media platform, nephew Rishi Kapoor also made his tweet with words “Yessssssss! Shashi Kapoor to get the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke award for contribution to Indian Cinema. Well deserved uncle. God Bless.” With such he also added that he is the one fetching the third Padma Bhushan and third Phalke award in the family, with the former two recipients being Prithviraj Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor. He has been entitled as Swarn Kammal or the Golden Lotus with the Dadasaheb Phalke award. A cash prize of INR 10 lacs along with the honorary shawl is also to be rewarded.
