Alluri Sita Ramaraju- The revolutionary patriot who solely stood against the British Raj, eternally remembered as a great fighter of Indian Independence. Many plays and stage shows adopted the legend of Alluri, which is a hair-raising patriotic story. Regarded as Manyam Veerudu, Alluri Sita Ramaraju’s legend inspired many actors of Tollywood to portray the role on silver screen. But, the only hero who portrayed a full length character of the revolutionary patriot was Super Star Krishna in the film Alluri Sita Ramaraju, in 1974. However, many others played the role in tiny bits, before and after the film.

• Eminent director Tatineni Prakasarao was the first one to start a film on Alluri, who was ready with the script. He chose ANR for the role, but due to few reasons the film was called off during its pre-production stage.

• During 1953-54, NTR too got his attention on Alluri and prepared the script for the shoot. He also released a few of his pictures in the newspapers, in Alluri’s get-up. But, the film never went on the sets. Even after this, NTR constantly used to tell his fans that he would adorn the role of Alluri and finally in, Sardar Paparayudu (1980), NTR appeared in Alluri’s get-up in one of the songs. It is said that during this time NTR realized his interest in serving the society and thus he entered into state politics for the same.

• In the film Alumagalu, 1958, Jaggayya was the first actor to appear in Alluri’s get-up in one of the scenes. The audiences received the scene with great applause and that was when cine-experts believed Alluri Sita Ramaraju would definitely make a great film.

• In 1968, the legend of Alluri Sita Ramaraju was released as Gramaphone records in 6 parts. Jaggayya lent his voice for Alluri and Gummadi for Ruther Ford, both of them received great appreciation.

• In 1968, in the film Asadhyudu, Krishna appeared in Alluri’s get-up for a very short time, in one of the scenes. With a great reception just for that tiny get-up, Super Star Krishna decided to make a full-fledged character of the same.

• Later, famous producer D. L. Narayana attempted to produce Alluri’s legend with Sobhan Babu, also few others like Subbaraju, Sekhar Babu wanted to do the same with Krishna, but all the attempts did not work.

• Finally, in 1974, from his own banner Super Star Krishna produced the film Alluri Sita Ramaraju, the legendary tale of the heroic personality. It’s the 100th film from his banner, which is said to be one of the best films of Krishna’s career. Mahakavi Sri Sri penned the songs for the film, of which Telugu Veera Levara received National Award and is one of the best patriotic songs till date. The film had a brilliant star cast of Krishna, Jaggayya, Vijaya Nirmala, Prabhakar Reddy, Balaiah, Chandra Mohan, Rao Gopal Rao. Maharadhi wrote the dialogues and Adi Narayanarao composed the music. The film was directed by Ramachandra Rao with the assistance of K. S. R. Das, which was a huge success.
