Personal Life

Born as Priya Vasudev Mani Iyer, she is born in to a Tamil Brahmin factory. Her father is Vasudeva Mani and mother is Latha Mani. Her grandmother Kamala Kailas is a famous Carnatic singer. Even though, she is born in Chennai, she grew in Bengaluru and went to school there. She is currently pursuing B.A. degree in psychology.
Career

Priyamani appeared in several Ad commercials after her schooling. Her filmy debut happened in 2003 in a Telugu movie, Evare Athagadu. In the next year, she made her debut in Malayalam and Tamil industries with Satyam and Kangalal Kaidhu Sei. But sadly all these films failed miserably at the box office.

Her first break came in Telugu with Jagapathi Babu Starrer Pellaina Kothalo. The movie was a big hit and went to bring so many offers in Tollywood. 2007 was a significant year in her career. Her Tamil movie, Paruthi Veeran got her national wide acclaim after she went on to bag National Award for her acting. In the same year, she got a blockbuster in Telugu in the form of Junior NTR’s Yamadonga. However, her career did not grow exciting even after she continued to bag offers beside big actors like Balakrishna (in Mithrudu), Ravi Teja (in Shambo Siva Shambo), Nagarjuna (in Ragada ) and Gopi Chand (in Golimaar).

One more significant year in her filmography was 2010. She went on to bag roles in Ram Gopal Varma’s Rakta Charitra-2 and Mani Ratnam’s Raavan. The movies got her good buzz but they could not convert in to more offers.

In the recent times, the actress is mostly confined to item numbers and female centric movies like Charu Latha, Chandi and Angulika. She appeared in a raunchy item number in Shah Rukh Khan’s Chennai Express which is currently the biggest hit in Indian film history.

The actress’ recent release, Chandee could not get a release even in the Hyderabad city. The movie released in handful of theaters in the state and it ended up as a big failure.
Trivia
- Priyamani is a distant cousin of Bollywood actress, Vidya Balan. Priyamani's dad and Vidya's father are first cousins, and that's how she is related to Vidya Balan. In one of her recent interviews, she revealed, "I never discussed about my relationship with Vidya. In fact, I haven't met or even spoken to her!"
- After she acted in four films beside Jagapathi Babu, media started to link her with the actor. But both of them turned down those as baseless rumours.
