Daana Veera Soora Karna 1977 story at a glance

Daana Veera Soora Karna is one all time Telugu Classic which features Sr.NTR in multiple roles such as Karna, Duryodhana and Lord Krishna – each with different histrionics, body language and dialogue delivery: along with mesmerizing looks. He added glamour to the Duryodhana’s role while the film primarily focuses on Karna’s point of view and his life’s journey from friendship with Duryodhana till Kurukshetra war. This is another masterpiece which was directed by Sr.NTR himself.

The film deals with Karna (Sr.NTR)’s journey in life right from hardships, Duryodhana (Sr.NTR)’s friendship and then raising himself to a powerful warrior in Kurukshetra War. The film features Duryodhana’s anger towards Pandavas for the insult Draupadi (Sarada) does to him in the Maya Sabha and many such interesting sequences. The film reaches a crescendo when Kurukshetra War begins, and the radical change every important character in Mahabharata undergoes as s result of it.

  • Trade

Sr.NTR excels in every role he played- let it be the aggressive Duryodhana, or mellowed down Karna, or the balanced Lord Krishna. His unique histrionics for each role he adorned were amazing in every respect. It is literally Sr.NTR’s show all the way in the film! Infact the LP records featuring the dialogues rendered by Sr.NTR were specially released in the market. This was one of the rare occurrences in Telugu Cinema were the dialogues were as popular as songs.  Nandamuri Harikrishna played the role of Arjuna in the film and he pulls it off well. Balakrishna played the role of Abhimanyu and he proved at an early age that he has the penchant for Mythological roles.  Veteran actors like Rajanala and Gummadi did their roles at ease.
  • Highlights

The film was made with great production values and good dialogues.  The interesting part is to have Duryodhana sing a duet for the first time in Telugu Cinema for this film. The song is none other than “Chitram Bhalare Vichitram” sung by SPB and Suseela. The lyrics were penned by C.Narayana Reddy and it became one of the best songs in his career. Music by Pendyala works wonders in the film.  Sr.NTR’s directional skills were proved once again to be brilliant with this complex film.
