Karthik (Mahat Raghavendra is a dull student who is not at all interested in studies. He falls in love with a girl, Priyanka (Archana Kavi) who studies well. Karthik fails in 16 subjects when all his classmates pass through easily. He hides this matter from his parents. Later Priyanka gets oppurtunity to pursue higher studies abroad. Despite Karthik's disinterest, she flies. Karthik feels that she is neglecting him due to his failure and moves on in life. It was then Chaitra (Pia Bajpai) enters his life and supports him in all troubles. Slowly, they fall in love. When everything is fine, Priyanka returns causing a storm in their lives. What happens next forms the rest of the story.

Mahat Raghavendra is an excellent dancer. And sadly 10% of that effort is also not put in the acting department. His expressions are very artificial and body language is even worse. He did not seemed like a hero material. Archana Kavi is good in a girl next door character. Pia Bajpai is cute and performed really well. Sharath Babu, Banerjee and Pragathi lived up to their name. Ali’s comedy track as a Project Manager is a relief to audience. Brahmanandham is totally underused and his characterization is not up to the standards of Brahmi himself.

The subject of Back Bench Student always appeal to students and youth for they identify themselves with the movie and characters. So, director Madhura Sreedhar has a minimum guarantee product in the form of story but he entirely faltered in etching the correct screenplay. He even got an additional screenplay writer in the form of Lakshmi Bhupal but is of no effect. All the scenes are in the backdrop of a good intent but could not have any effect on the audience due to bad writing. The climax could have been better.

Sunil Kashyap had delivered rocking songs for the movie. They all went well with the audience but the back ground score is not so impressive and could not recreate the magic required to enhance the feel of the movie.

GK Prasad's cinematography is average with nil technique. Dharmendra Kakarla's editing could have been a lot better.

Madhura Sreedhar always looked to be a promising director for me. He always make movies with a good intent but finally manages to obtain just pass mark. The same happened with Back Bench Student too. The intent is all good, the cast selection is good but the final output is just not up to the expectations.
