Businessman story at a glance

Surya (Mahesh) is an ordinary lad who comes to Mumbai to start a business and capture power. He traps Chitra (Kajal) the daughter of Police Commissioner and a painter by profession. Slowly he falls in love with her in real. Surya starts a mafia business and turns in to Surya Bhai. He later joins with local Mayor Candidate (Sayaji Shinde) and enters in to national politics by helping him win the elections. What happens next forms the plot.

    Businessman was an average stuff movie but went on to become one of the biggest money spinners in Mahesh Babu’s career. Thanks to the Sankranthi season in which audience flocked to the theaters. Also the movie came after Mahesh Babu’s Dookudu which also helped in raking decent amount of collections.
  • Highlights

    • This is the second movie of Mahesh and Puri Jagannath combination. Their first movie Pokiri was a super duper hit.
    • Kajal Agarwal paired up with Mahesh for the first time.
    • The movie had biggest release ever for a Telugu movie.
  • Sidelights

    • The entire movie shooting was wrapped up in less than 75 days. This is the fastest shot movie in Mahesh’s career. The whole credit goes to Puri Jagannath for his fast paced completion.
    • Shruti Hassan was the first choice as heroine for the movie but Kajal Agarwal made it finally.
    • This is the first Telugu movie to release with subtitles in overseas.
    • Mahesh Babu and Puri Jagannath themselves had crooned for the theme song of the movie.
    • Puri and Mahesh had stated that they want to do the sequel to the movie but the idea was later dropped.
    • The music albums of all the three versions – Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam were released on the same dais (at the audio function).
    • The movie was later dubbed in to Tamil and Malayalam under the same name but did not make much impact.
