Shakti story at a glance

Aishwarya (Ileana) is the daughter of Central Home Minister (Prabhu). She, along with her friends, runs away from home and goes on a secret trip to Jaipur, Kashmir and Haridwar.  Shakthi (Jr. NTR) a local guide travels along with them throughout their tour. Shakthi always demands high amounts for small favours and that attitude irks Aishwarya. Later she falls in love with him after he saves her life from the bad guys. Who are they? Why they are after him? What consequences Shakthi has to face forms the rest of the story.

  • Trade

Shakthi was the second combination of NTR and Meher Ramesh after Kantri. Shakthi was hyped as one of the big budget movies in Telugu. There was too much of hype surrounding the movie but it fell flat once released. It finally ended up as one of the biggest disasters in Telugu and in Jr. NTR’s career.
  • Highlights

    • This is the second combination movie of NTR and Meher Ramesh. Earlier, they have together worked for Kantri which was an average grosser.
    • This is the costliest movie ever made in Telugu then. It is extensively shot in remote locations like Egypt.
    • NTR and Ileana paired up for the second time for this movie. Earlier, they have acted together in “Raakhi”.
  • Sidelights

    • The movie had almost made Aswini Dutt bankrupt. He had to sell several of his properties to recover from the losses.
    • Ileana had disappeared from the promotion campaign of the movie. Later she gave a controversial interview in which she made a scathing attack on NTR calling him rude and ill-mannered
    • NTR got married to Lakshmi Pranathi, a month after the release of Shakthi.
