Yamadonga story at a glance

Raja (NTR) is a petty thief who abuses Yamaraj (Mohan Babu) when drunk. Yama feels insulted and makes sure Raja gets killed even though he is entitled to live for 100 years. Raja in hell comes to know about this and he steals ‘Yamapasam’ [the whip of Yamaraj] as whoever takes the possession of it will become Yamaraj [the God of Hell]. And the rest of the story is how both of them try to outsmart each other.

  • Trade

Yamadonga came when NTR’s career was in doldrums. He was considerably hefty then. Rajamouli toned him down and the first look stills of the movie skyrocketed the expectations. The movie managed to live up to the hype and later turned out to be the biggest grosser in NTR’s career then.
  • Highlights

    • This is the third combination of NTR and Rajamouli after Student No.1 and Simhadri.
    • Collection King Mohan Babu had donned the role of ‘Yama Dharma Raj’ in the movie and yesteryear actress Khushboo played his wife.
    • Yesteryear glam girl Rambha danced for an item number “Nachore…” in the movie.
  • Sidelights

    • Rajamouli crafted a scene involving Sr. NTR and Jr. NTR with graphics in the movie was a rage then.
    • NTR for the first time in his career had crooned for a song (“Olammi Thikkaregindhaa…”) which is a remix of “Olammi Thikka Regindhaa…” from Senior NTR’s 1977 super hit ‘Yamagola’.
    • Actress Priyamani slipped while walking on the stones and got her ankle sprained with minor bleeding injury while shooting for the movie.
    • This movie was later dubbed into Tamil, Hindi and Odiya languages as well.
