Jagadekaveeruni Katha story at a glance

How should Lord Indra Daughter look like? How should a divine woman look like? If such a woman comes to Planet Earth how would it be?- All these questions were answered by K.V.Reddy in Jagadeka Veeruni Kadha. He could think of only one actress B.Saroja to suit such challenging role. After this film, Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari was made by K.Raghavendra Rao casting Sridevi in a similar role- which is a different story altogether! After the success of Panduranga Mahatyam, Pelli Kanuka- B.Saroja stole the hearts of the audience with her performance in Jagadeka Veeruni Kadha. The film became a crowd puller because of Sr.NTR’s appearance and performance, B.Saroja’s beauty and sweet rendition of dialogues.

Story Details:
The king of Udayagiri (Mukkamala) has two sons- The elder son being Pratap (Sr.NTR), younger son being Satrajit (Lanka Satyam). During one moonlit night, Pratap expresses his wish to get care and services from divine women when his father asks him the same. His father gets furious and doesn’t like such wish. He imposes a ban on his son from the kingdom. Pratap starts off to get his wish fulfilled and reaches a pool of divine women with the help of ghosts. He watches the divine women Jayanthi (B.Saroja Devi), Nagakumari(L.Vijayalakshmi), Varuna Kumari ( Jayanthi), Agni Kumari (Bala) swimming and singing in the pool. They notice Pratap and curse him to become a stone. Due to the devotion of Pratap’s mother (Rushyendramani) towards Goddess Parvathi (Kannamba), Pratap regains his human form. Jayanthi has a Naga curse pertaining to snakes. She has to marry the person who steals her saree. Pratap realizes this and does the same by making her his wife. Pratap and Jayanthi reach to Kamakoota Kingdom where the king Trisokudu (Raajanala) is a wrongdoer. He eyes Jayanthi and tries to separate Pratap and the latter. During this process Trisokudu gets destroyed. Meanwhile the remaining divine women Naga, Varuna Kumari and Agni Kumari become lovers of Pratap. They devise a clever plan of taking Jayanthi away from Pratap and leave the Planet Earth by cheating him by getting hold of Jayanthi’s saree. Rest of the story is about how Pratap passes the tests imposed by the Goddesses and get back his wives with his courage and tact. The film ends on happy note when Pratap earns the goodwill of his father and Kingdom of Udayagiri.

Performances:
Sr.NTR is highly believable as the prince of Udayagiri and a yearner of divine women. He looks very handsome in the prince attire throughout the film. B. Saroja is breathtakingly beautiful as Jayanthi the divine lady. Jayanthi, L.Vijayalakshmi, Bala are good as divine women as well.  Rajanala is quite good as the villain Trisokudu. Mukkamala is neat as the king of Udayagiri. CSR and Relangi offer good comedy relief creating a trend.

Technical Aspects:
Pingali’s dialogues are a strong foundation for the film. He earlier created history with films like Paatala Bhairavi and Mayabazar. Pendyala’s music is a great highlight with songs like Jalakaalatalalo, Varinchi Vacchina Maanava Veerudu, O Divya Ramanulaara, O Cheli O Sakhi, Manoharamuga Madhura Madhuramuga, Aindemo Aindadhi Priya Gaaname, Shiva Shankari, Raa Raa Kanarara, Aasa Aakasa Nee Needanu  became all time hits.
