Vivaha Bhojanambu story at a glance

There are very few films in Telugu Cinema which has the comedy element almost in every frame of it. Needless to say that it is very difficult to write a story with so much comedy along with something to think about. Jandhyala is one director as well as an amazing writer with a vision that he could create a great story with hilarious characters- and giving a meaningful message through the film in an entertaining manner as well. One such Comedy Class is Rajendra Prasad starrer Vivaha Bhojanambu.

Story Details:
The movie basically revolves around a misogynist named Sitaramarao (Rajendra Prasad), who establishes an organization named “Sthree Dweshi Samajam” which offers shelter for men who are troubled by women in various phases of life. Though the concept looks quite unusual in the first place, his character makes it quite clear as well as hilarious as the film progresses by. Sitaramarao despises women in such an annoying rate because of his sad past where he loves a girl named Lavanya (Ashwini) and misunderstands her actions in certain circumstances.

The unfortunate incident breaks his heart and he gets more determined to take proper care of his pampered brother (Harish).

Very soon Sitaramarao understands whatever happened to him is not because of the way women are cruel- and it is unfair to have such prejudice about hating women at an annoying rate. The rest of the story deals about how he realizes this truth in an entertaining as well in an amazing manner!

The best part of the film is a neighbor of Sitaramarao – Sutthi Veera Bhadra Rao who is a retired employee obsessed with Yogaasanas and movie stories! His funny tenant Kavi, played by Brahmanandam tries to impress his owner by telling a good film story so that he can be exempted from paying the rent. These scenes are considered to be the funniest sequences Telugu Cinema has ever witnessed.

All in all, Vivaha Bhojanambu is a perfect comedy entertainer and a true classic. The film never ages with time and the comedy still continues to generate laughter in Telugu Households!

Highlights:
  • The way Brahmanandam always addresses his house owner Sutthi Veerabhadra Rao  “Maha Prabho” which became one of the most impactful dialogues in Telugu Cinema- as far as comedy genre is concerned.
  • One of the sequences in the film where Sutthi Veera Bhadra Rao narrates a story to Brahmanandam features every street and locality name present in Vijayawada, a prime Town in AP. Another sequence which follows next features all the World’s city names which have the suffix “-bad” ( say: Islamabad!)
  • Versatile singer SPB acted as a musical police officer in the movie who catches Sitaramarao in different disguises in extremely funny circumstances. Incidentally, he scored the music for the film as well.
  • Sutthi Velu acted as Nippu Appala swami- a henpecked husband , but trying to cover his original image to the outside world. Another noted actor Chandramohan also acted as the relative of Sitaramarao in the film, who plays an important role in the plot.
  • Other wonderful actors who feature in the film are Subhalekha Sudhakar who plays the role of Sitarama Rao’s assistant and Potti Prasad as the funny bell hitter with a peculiar Srikakulam accent.
  • This is perhaps the first film which features Rajendra Prasad in lady attire- for one particular comedy sequence. He later did a full length comedy “Madam” in which he is seen in lady attire during 90s.  infact, this is one movie which influenced many comedy films which came later- having heroes acting as a lady in disguise: such as Chitram Bhalare Vichitram, Chupulu Kalasina Subhavela and so on.
