Pavitra Bandham story at a glance

Pavitra Bandham redefined the changing times and the sentimental value which Telugu Cinema usually carries out during the mid 90s era. It also marked the hit on screen pair Venkatesh- Soundarya which rocked the Telugu nation for long time.  Great performances, emotional scenes and good songs gained the appreciation of many audiences during the time of its release.

Story Details:
Vijay (Venkatesh) is a US returned youngster who has no awareness or interest in Indian Values or Marriage system. His father (SPB) is a rich industrialist who feels worried about this brash attitude of Vijay.  He tries desperately to get his son married so that his nature would change and he would understand the greatness of Indian Values. Radha (Soundarya) works as a personal assistant to Vijay’s father and has lot of family and economic problems. She being a bold woman faces all these but falls out at one particular instant. It is when Vijay proposes to marry her but with a condition of agreement for a period of one year. If either of them feels the marriage isn’t for them, they can leave the partner after a year. Radha initially gets furious with such proposal but after seeing the family troubles, she eventually agrees.  Vijay and Radha have a happy life for one year and Radha takes care of her in laws house with utmost dedication and care. Yet, Vijay feels that Radha is not a right partner for him and tells her to leave the house as per the contract rules. Rest of the film is about how Vijay realizes the greatness of Indian value system and whether Radha understands this change.

Performances:
Venkatesh is cool as the foreign returned youngster who is quite casual about things. His dressing, body language suited for the role quite well. He also excelled as a changed man later in the film. Soundarya is flawless as the typical middle class working woman who is high on values. Her acting in emotional scenes reminds the viewer of veteran actress Savitri. SPB is at his usual best who is torn between his son and concern towards his daughter in law. Subhalekha Sudhakar acted as Soundarya’s younger brother and does his best. Sudhakar and Brahmanandam offer some comedy relief in a sentimental film like this.

Technical Aspects:
Story written by Bhupathi Raja was something new for that era.  But Posani Krishna Murali does a commendable job in writing simplistic lines.  Editing by Gautham Raju is neat without any shoddy moments. Music by M.M.Keeravani blends well with the film’s theme and the song Apuroopamainadhamma became well loved by the women audience. Direction by Muthyala Subbaiah is crisp and he proved to be an ace personality in directing sentimental films of this sort.
