Hai Hai Nayaka story at a glance

A film which has two contrasting features such as non-stop comedy and a valuable message is quite rare in Telugu Cinema. When the audience were used to regularized comedy sequences which appear as a separate track from the main plot of the story, a great gentleman called Jandhyala changed the trend by making out and out comedy films along with giving a valuable message to the audience.  One such film which came from the legendary director was Hai Hai Nayaka starring Naresh in the lead.

Story Details:
The movie is about a Telugu Teacher Ramakrishna (Naresh) who has an over pampering grandmother Suryakanthamma (Suryakantham). Though having lot of mastery over Telugu language, Ramakrishna never gets a proper job because of the sad fate of Telugu in our state! It is when Ramakrishna gets an offer from a remote village as a school teacher.  The owner of the school is Pedda Rayudu (Kota Srinivasa Rao) who is an illiterate rich man who uses bad language for every sentence he utters.  Because of that his son Bulli Rayudu (Kiran Vinnakota)learns the same and throws insults and bad words even on teachers of the school.  Looking at this horrible language and the bad habits of the kid, the teachers of the school decide to get a competent enough teacher who can bring the kid into good discipline. That teacher is none other than our Ramakrishna.  He incidentally loves Pedda Rayudu’s daughter Radha Rani (Sri Bharathi) during his college days(Which is shown as flashback episode) and gets stunned seeing her in this village.

The rest of the story is about how Ramakrishna changes the arrogant kid into a good student and how he sets his love life right.

Performances:
Naresh is hilarious to the core as the funny student in flashback episode as well as the strict teacher later in his life. His scenes with his grandmother played by Suryakantham are a delight to watch.  Suryakantham is amazing as the doting grandbother for the hero. Kota Srinivasa Rao is excellent as the arrogant wealthy landlord and shows different shades in his character after the film unfolds. Sutthi Velu is terrific as the principal of the school, and a victim of the kid’s bad words now and then! Brahmanandam plays the role of drawing teacher in the school, generating unlimited laughter with his expressions whenever the kid uses a bad word on him!

Other comedians such as Srilakshmi, Subbaraya Sharma, Mallikarjuna Rao acted as the Music teacher, History teacher and the funny attender of the school respectively. Potti Prasad is seen in a cameo as the teacher who loses his mind after hearing the kid’s offensive language in class!

Highlights:
  • Jandhyala is such a brilliant director that despite the theme of the film, there is no single bad word uttered by any character on the screen. Whenever such situation occurs, he used a chorus saying “Boothu Boothu” like an alert to the viewer!
  • This film was Madhavapeddi Suresh’s first film as music director in Telugu Cinema. He later gave many good albums such as Brindavanam, Bhairava Dweepam and so on.
  • The film showcases the issue of kids learning bad habits from their elders in a sensitive and sensible fashion along with generating hilarious situations so that the viewer is not bored of the theme.
  • The sad plight of Telugu lecturers in Andhra Pradesh was brilliantly shown by Jandhyala, where the hero struggles to find a job even as a waiter with his Telugu expertise!
  • Jandhyala is seen as himself in the titles of the film directing the cast and some funny bloopers from the film are seen as well.
