Gruhapravesham (1946) story at a glance

Gruhapravesham is the first film of L.V.Prasad in the role of a hero.  The film was a successful family drama which was well received by the audience.

Story Details:
Somalingam (L.V.Prasad) is a person who strongly supports celibacy. He frequently gives speeches enlightening people about not to marry. Once, Janaki (Bhanumathi) questions his ideas in front of the public in one of his speeches. Her life is filled with problems with a dominating step mother (Hemalatha) and a submissive father. Her step mother’s brother Ramanarao (CSR) is just a man of words and cheats women with his fake talk. He tries to marry Janaki despite secretly marrying a girl named Lalitha (Jr.Sriranjani). On the day of wedding, Janaki runs away from the house. It is when she knocks the door of a stranger in search for her. That house is none other than Somalingam’s – who is a woman hater and despises marriage. Listening to her sad story, Somalingam gives her shelter. All his celibate friends and members oppose his decision. Janaki transforms Somalingam by making him realize that the World runs with Men and Women’s presence equally and they have to respect each other. Somalingam rightfully realizes this. Meanwhile Janaki’s parents search rigorously for her. After getting hold of her they plan for her wedding by force. Somalingam rescues Janaki in the climax and the wrongdoings of Ramanarao comes out. The film ends on a happy note with the wedding of Somalingam and Janaki.

Performances:
L.V.Prasad is excellent as the hero with different shades. Bhanumathi is wonderful in a powerful female lead roe and she sang songs in the film as well. Her songs were well appreciated by the audience. CSR is brilliant in a character with negative shades and he delivers it with a tinge of comedy.  The remaining cast is perfect in their respective roles.

Technical Aspects:
Dialogues by Tripurineni Gopichand are thought provoking and witty. He paved way for many such themed films later in Telugu Cinema. Lyrics and Music by Baalatantrapu Rajnikantha Rao remain as one of the huge assets for the film. Direction by L.V.Prasad is good in pace and makes the film an interesting watch.
