Veerabhimanyu story at a glance

For an actor like Sobhan Babu who was studying in Madras and suddenly came to films in hope of some good opportunities, he could only get roles of limited presence. While he was waiting for the right break as an actor, he got a chance to act as the handsome Abhimanyu in Mythological Epic Nartanasaala. The success of this film led him to act as Abhimanyu in full length role for Veerabhimanyu. However, it is a different story of how Sobhan Babu struggled later even after this success and finally getting break with Manushulu Maarali. The character of Abhimanyu is of limited presence in Epic Mahabharata  but Sobhan Babu enthralled the audience with his portrayal of the character with youthful looks and valor.

Story Details:
The story features the life of Abhimanyu (Sobhan Babu), son of Arjuna- one of the most valiant Pandava brothers. It has the journey of this character, with a love story with Uttara (Kanchana), his entertaining interactions with his uncle Ghatotkacha (Nellore Kantha Rao) and rightful presence of Lord Krishna (Sr.NTR).  It is interesting to see the famous Uttara Kumar (Padmanabham) having a hilarious role to play in the film.

Performances:
Sobhan Babu was perfect for the role of Abhimanyu with his good looks, courage and aggression. He added his own touch of youthfulness for the great role. Kanchana is adequate as Uttara and shares a great on screen chemistry with her co-star Sobhan Babu.Sr.NTR is amazing as ever in Lord Krishna’s role and his vishwaroopam sequence in climax remains to be one of the highlights for the film. Nellore Kantha Rao entertains as Ghatotkacha and shares some great comedy with Abhimanyu’s character. Padmanabham is hilarious as Uttara Kumar. The film begins with a pregnant Subhadra listening to the story of Arjuna (Kantha Rao) explaining about Padmavyuham and Abhimanyu in her womb listening to it and continues with the story of Abhimanyu combating the Padmavyuham, leading to cruel death by Kaurvasa and Arjuna’s revenge on the latter. The climax features a devastated Arjuna encouraged by Lord Krishna to get back in war.

Technical Aspects:
The script given by Samudrala Senior is one of the important pillars for the film. He made the episodes highly entertaining and at the same time being loyal to the great Epic book. Music by K.V.Mahadevan worked wonders when great lyricists like Athreya, Arudra and Samudrala Senior gave some brilliant lyrics. ‘Rambha Urvasi ni Taladanne Ramani Lalama Evareeme’, ‘Adhigo Navalokam Velase Manakosam’,’Choosi Valachi Chenthaku Pilichi’, ‘Challani Swami vi Neevaithe Allana Aagumu Jabilli’, ‘Allari Vaada Raa Raa’- are evergreen hits.
