Bangaru Thalli story at a glance

Bangaru Thalli is one defining film which established Jamuna as a top notch actress in Telugu Cinema. This film featured her in a rustic woman’s role, her belief in her birthplace, becoming a daughter in law for another such family, fighting all her troubles and reaching old age, and her lifetime of struggles. This film is based on Hindi Epic film Mother India which featured Nargis Dutt in the role.

Story Details:
The film is set in a backdrop of a village where Rajanna (Jaggaiah) is a farmer. He gets married to Annapurna (Jamuna). The couple has three sons but unfortunately Rajanna loses his hands in an accident. Annapurna gets determined to run the family and works in the fields equally with the men. A pawn broker (Nagabhushanam) gives a hard time to Annapurna’s family. Rajanna gets depressed that he is becoming a burden to the family and leaves the house without notice. As a result, Annapurna’s struggles increase tenfold. She loses her son but raises her other two sons with her strong will and hard work. The elder son (Sobhan Babu) and younger son (Krishnam Raju) try to help their mother whenever needed. The younger son fights over the wrong doings of the pawn broker and becomes too aggressive. At one dramatic moment, Annapurna herself had to stop her younger son and in the confrontation she kills him with a revolver.Eventually, she gets awarded with Bangaru Thalli award for her love towards agriculture.

Performances:
Jamuna literally breathes life to the character of Annnapurna in this film. Her emotional turmoil was brilliantly shown on screen and she performs excellence. It was not an easy task to act in a role which was done earlier by a legendary actress like Nargis Dutt but she gave her best for it. Jaggaiah is good as the husband of Annapurna and he does well when facing an unexpected shock in his life. Nagabhushanam is at his evil best as the pawn broker.  Sobhan Babu is decent as the son of Annapurna. Krishnam Raju performs well as the angry young man who fights over injustice.

Technical Aspects:
The film was adapted well to suit the conditions for Telugu Houshold. Most importantly the emotional quotient of the original was greatly captured by this remake. S.Rajeshwara Rao gave great soundtrack for this epic film with songs like ‘Palle Seema Mana Panta Seema’, ‘Innallu Leni Siggu Ippudendhuko’, became great hits. The film is beyond commercial values and was made with high standards of cinematic excellence.
