Sardar Paparayudu story at a glance

This is the third film of Dasari with Sr.NTR as the hero. He already made Manashulantha Okkate(1976) and Circus Ramudu (1980). It is said that Sr.NTR got the idea of public service and political thought while working for this film. The get up of Alluri Seetharama Raju for Sr.NTR in this film added for this thought. After this film’s release, Sr.NTR made another film with Dasari named Bobbili Puli which gave good push for Sr.NTR’s political image. The producer of this film Kranthi Kumar made women oriented subjects like Sarada, Jyothi, Aame Kadha, Kalpana and Praanam Khareedhu earlier. His film Swathi which came later also is a women oriented subject. One day, Kranthi Kumar’s friends joked saying will he always make only feminist subjects and challenged whether he can make a film with Sr.NTR Kranthi Kumar took the challenge and met Sr.NTR the very next day and fortunately the legendary actor agreed to do a film with him. But Kranthi Kumar did not have a story ready with him. He met Raghavendra Rao but the latter was very busy with existing projects. It is when Kranthi Kumar met Dasari and latter readily came up with a script featuring Sr.NTR in dual role as father-son. Dasari immediately contacted his mentor Palagummi Padmaraju and worked for the script of Sardar Paparayudu with good commercial elements. During the filming, Sr.NTR broke his arm but he continued filming with the injury.

Story Details:
A sincere police officer Ram Mohan (Young Sr.NTR) and Vijaya (Sridevi) are in love. Vijaya’s father Dharmaraju (Rao Gopala Rao) is a corrupt politician who fakes the good gentleman image outside. He along with another guy named Nyayapathi (Allu Ramalingaiah) exploited the poor by joining hands with the British. When Dharmaraju meets Ram Mohan through his daughter, he immediately goes back to his past. Dharmaraju kills Vijayaraghavaraju (Prabhakara Reddy) in Andaman islands and throws the crime over a sincere gentleman and a great freedom fighter Paparayudu (Older Sr.NTR). Paparayudu gets  a life sentence. The reason why Dharmaraju is shocked seeing Ram Mohan because the latter exactly resembles Paparayudu in facial features. In fact, Ram Mohan is the son of Paparayudu. Ram Mohan’s mother (Sarada) stays along with him. Right from then, Dharmaraju gets terrified and to make things for him worse, Paparayudu gets released from jail as a result of reducing the imprisonment. He decides to take revenge on Dharmaraju for wrongly imprisoning him and a rift starts between him and his son Ram Mohan.  The film ends on a happy note with justice eventually winning.

Performances:
Sr.NTR is fantastic in the young Ram Mohan role along with the title role of Sardar Paparayudu. The contrasting characterizations were greatly portrayed by him. It is indeed commendable that without bothering the injury in filming he had to work rigorously. His dialogues as Paparayudu with British General played by Mohan Babu deserve a great mention. Sridevi is decent as the female lead. Rao Gopala Rao is vicious as the evil Dharmaraju. Sarada suits well as the wife of Paparayudu.

Technical Aspects:
Dasari, along with his guru Palagummi Padmaraju and producer Kranthi Kumar came up with a mass oriented script which deals about patriotism, politics and sentimental values. Chakravarthy gave great re-recording as well as songs for the film. Songs like ‘Thella Cheera Malle Poolu’, ‘1980 Varaku’, ‘Uyyalaki Vayasocchindhi’ became good mass hits. The burra kadha feature penned by Sri Sri became highly successful. Even the dialogues became as famous as the songs.
