R.Madhavan (Maddy) is well known to Telugu Audience through the wonderful love story 'Sakhi' directed by Mani Ratnam which released in the year 2000. During his TV serial career progress, he happened to meet Mani Ratnam to audition for a role in 'Iddaru' (Iruvar) . But Mani Ratnam said he cannot cast Madhavan for the role because he looks too boyish for it and the role demands more aged appearance. A disappointed Madhavan left and little he knew that Mani Ratnam would cast him as mainstream hero for 'Sakhi' few years later!

Though the film was dubbed from the Tamil original, it did not stop Madhavan’s charms spread over Andhra Pradesh as well. His cool looks, relaxed nature and great acting performance earned him so many fans in South India and Telugu Audience were of no exception. Madhavan began his career as an actor in TV serials during 90s era. The film became so popular that people started calling him “Hrithik Roshan of the south” for the tremendous female fan base he earned with just a debut movie.

Madhavan got the ideal lover boy image spread over Tamil Cinema right from then, which made Gautham menon opt for him for his first film 'Cheli' (Minnale in Tamil).  The film got highly popular in Telugu as well for the songs and freshness in every frame, and not to forget- Madhavan’s excellent acting skills as the determined lover! It incidentally was music director Harris Jayaraj’s debut film and his music continues to create impact till now.

Then a career defining milestone arrived for Madhavan in the form of 'Amrutha' (Kannathil Muthamittal) which was a Mani Ratnam’s project yet again. But Madhavan did a role of responsible writer in this film. He did not carry any image of his previous films and the audiences were stunned to see this fantastic transformation. Though the film was not a commercial success, it was critically held at a higher place in every Telugu Film Lover’s heart. He even acted opposite legendary actor Kamal Hassan in 'Satyame Shivam' (Anbae Shivam in Tamil) which is termed as one of the most meaningful films released in thae year 2003.

Madhavan- Mani Ratnam’s association started just getting better by then, with another pathbreaking film 'Yuva' ( Ayitha Ezhuthu in Tamil) which showcased Madhavan in a new avatar! He played the role of an arrogant and rough local goon- who believes just in violence as the ultimate power. Many people could not digest to see Madhavan in the negative shaded role. It must be partly because of the amazing charm Madhavan had! But he acted so well in the film, that one couldn’t even remember Madhavan throughout the film- in every frame it was just the character!

Madhavan then ventured out to Bollywood and did some unforgettable character roles such as in Aamir Khan starrer 'Rang De Basanti' (2006) and 'Three Idiots' (2009). Madhavan truly became Mani Ratnam’s favourite when he took Madhavan for an pivotal role in 'Guru' (2007) as well. He actively participates for philanthropic causes, and even hosted certain Film Award events.  He is often seen in many advertisements as well. But, Telugu Cinema holds Madhavan a special place for the new fragrance his films gave to it!

Iqlikmovies wishes the charming actor Madhavan a very happy birthday and a movie-filled year ahead!
