Oo la la la…Oo la la la…tuhimeri fantasy…” hummed Babu Rao in an office. He was instantaneously slammed by a compliment of a “good bathroom singer”. Anyhow, that song made an ideal one to be hummed from bus stop singers to bathroom singers. We even tag some of our pals based on their singing talents. [Do we have to assume as judges of some singing talent show? Necessarily not!]

But, here is our eminent composer M.M. Keeravani, a giant rosewood in the world of music enlightening us with his classification of singers.

This is how tweets about the various kinds of singers he has come across or would ever exist in the universe of music.

10 .Gandharvulu – One and Only – S.P.Balasubrahmanyam

9. ShraamikaJeevulu – Those who sing to relax and forget the strain of physical labour

8. AmruthaKalashaalu – (voices) filled with milk and honey – Eg:Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan

7. PumbhaavaSaraswathulu - Singers who have progressed beyond ordinary human boundaries – Eg:Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna

6. GanithaSastragnyulu – Eminent Classical Singers

5. GumpuloGovindulu - Chorus Singers. They will become solo singers one day

4. VanyaPranulu – Those blessed with a rare timbre, extreme pitch and high bass etc.

3. Sanyaasulu – Good for background songs. Rarely suitable for love songs – Citing himself as an Example

2. Narulu – Entire Human Race – Anyone can sing a song, atleast one.

1. Amarulu - Those whose voice is filled with life, even after death – Eg:Ghantasaala garu.”

Now that we have learnt this from an ace composer like Keeravani, the pride of Indian music, we certainly cannot start placing ourselves into any of these, but instead take pride in our rich heritage of music and musicians.
