Maruthi knows the pulse of younger generation and he understands what they want. Although he has become a producer, he still is following his tried and tested success formula of a small story, less budget and new cast. He did the same with the movie ‘Prema Katha Chitram’ which was made with a small budget of Rs. 1.75 CR, but ended up making revenue of Rs. 8.0 Cr. This is a perfect example of his strategy. Presently he is directing the movie ‘Kotha Janta’ starring Allu Sirish and Regina.
There is news making rounds about his arrangements to make movies like ‘Prema Katha Chitram’ and seems to have already finalized the names to two of them: ‘Kalalu Kane Vayasu’ and ‘Twenty-Twenty’. These two movies will see the introduction of two new directors, even though the story, dialogues and direction will be under Maruthi supervision. They are made with a cumulative budget of Rs. 3.0 Cr, and if they generate revenue of at least Rs. 10.0 Cr with Maruthi name tag, they are deemed as hit.
Like the famous dialogue of Mahesh Babu in Businessman “Surya is not a name, it’s a BRAND”, we can say “Maruthi is not a name, it’s a BRAND”. But if they end up as ‘A’ grade movies like ‘Ee Rojullo’ and ‘Bus Stop’ nobody can save Maruthi, not even himself!
