Telugu origin girl becomes Miss America

For the first time ever, a Telugu-Indian descendant lass named Ms. Nina Davuluri has won the title of American Pageant. She has been crowned as Miss America 2014 yesterday by Former Miss America Mallory Hagan.

Another Hyderabadi based young girl, Miss Washington DC, Parvathy Bindu also competed in the American Pageant.

Nina, who gave an entry to the platform as Miss New York has performed a classical dance in the final round for Bollywood numbers. The 24-year old dusky beauty has her roots in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh and she is trained in Indian classical dances like Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam. Nina is said to be researching on functioning of human brain at New York University. Davuluri, walked the ramp after being named Miss America with tears of joy and thanked all her supporters.

The humble lady, straight from the event, has headed to Seaside Park in Atlantic City, New Jersey to support rebuilding efforts after a fire shattered more than four blocks of the iconic boardwalk last Thursday.
