SS Rajamouli’s Maryada Ramanna had been a huge hit in Telugu and has made around 30+ crores at the box-office. Comedian Sunil’s range has grown leaps and bounds with this one film and made him to stop accepting non-hero roles thereafter!

Maryada Ramanna was dubbed into Tamil with star comedian Santhanam as its lead hero and got a grand release on 10th May. Titled as “Vallavanukku Pullum Aayudham”, the Tamil version was jointly produced by PVP Cinemas and Santhanam himself. The film has generated a below average buzz among the trade circles and the mouth talk is also not encouraging enough to sustain for another few weeks. Even the reviews by critics were mostly negative and the concept hasn’t gone well with the Tamil audience. Another interesting trend to observe is that the film’s Hindi version “Son Of Sardar” was also an average performer at Bollywood box-office.

Though Maryada Ramanna was originally inspired from a black-and-white Hollywood film, SS Rajamouli had given a great treatment to make it more interesting to Tollywood audience. But, the same subject and screenplay has back-fired in Hindi and Tamil languages. Is Rajamouli’s subject not a universal one to get accepted by non-Telugu audience? Will this be considered as a failure of Rajamouli as he is the one who has penned the script?
