You may have been noticing how a lot is being spoken about the small budget movies and their travails to recover their investments and get proper releases. Usually, the small films consider business avenues only from theatrical collections and Satellite rights. They feel that if not theatrical than satellite would get back their money.
And sometimes, if the film gets a good talk then remake rights revenue come to an extent. But here is something which could prove very useful to them. Recently, the Bollywood release Lunch Box which was made at 1 crore collected just 40 lakhs nationwide. But the filmmakers sent it to different international film festivals.
The film started getting recognition and it collected a whopping 35 crores overseas. This avenue is something not being explored by many. Another example is that of the film Ugly. This was made at a budget of 9 crores including promotional expenses by Anurag Kashyap. It garnered worldwide 40 crores.
So, those avenues need to be explored by our filmmakers and only then they would have more scope than big budget movies. Of course, it must have enough material to be considered for film festivals though. Check it out then!
