The countdown begins for 2016 Summer Olympics officially known as Games of XXX1 Olympiad and commonly known as Rio Olympics 2016. The games begin from the 5th of August at Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and will end on the 21st of August spanning for 17days. The popular Maracana Stadium will host the opening & closing ceremonies of the prestigious games.

The Olympics will host 42 sport disciplines, 306 events at 37 venues and around 10,500 participants from across 206 countries will participate. Well the #Rio2016 fever already started & our India is also a strong contestant in the games this season with a contingent of  121 athletes (maximum to Olympics from India ever).

Sports have always been an integral part of our lives that reflected in our cinema as well. On this note, we felt like commemorating some of the well-made films on 10 Olympic Sports (especially in Telugu & Hindi):

1.     AthleticsAshwini (Telugu, 1991), Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (Hindi, 2013), Paan Singh Tomar (Hindi, 2012)
2.     BoxingMary Kom (Hindi, 2014), Saala Khadoos (Hindi & Tamil, 2015)
3.     Cycling- Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (Hindi, 1992)
4.     Football- Goal (Hindi, 2007)
5.     Hockey- Chak De! India (Hindi, 2007)
6.     Rugby- Sye (Telugu, 2004)
7.     Taekwondo- Bhadrachalam (Telugu, 2001)
8.     Wrestling- Sultan (Hindi, 2016)

Upcoming films on Sports this year:

Budhia Singh Born to Run (based on Athletics) & Aamir Khan’s Dangal (based on Wrestling).

Telugu Hero Sudheer Babu is determined to do a film on popular Badminton player turned Coach Pullela Gopichand & even Shah Rukh Khan also recently announced to do a film on Sania Mirza (Tennis).

We also have an Olympic medal in Weight Lifting won by our very own gem of a sportsperson Karanam Malleswari in 1999 Sydney Olympics. If a biopic is made upon her, we have able actresses like Charmme & Rakul Preet (a fitness freak too) who can pull off the role. What say fan folk? Any suggestions on other biopics which haven’t been explored yet?
