Tamil Nadu's CM Jayalalithaa is No More

Yesteryear actress and present Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister Jayalalithaa Jayaraman (68) is no more.
 
She breathed her last at 11.30 PM after a long battle for life in Apollo Hospital, Chennai. Jaya suffered a severe cardiac arrest on Sunday night (Dec 4). She was on life support for many hours before she was finally declared dead by a team of doctors (Apollo Hospitals released a press release). Jayalalithaa has been undergoing treatment in Apollo for respiratory ailment since September 28. Though she was discharged for a brief period, she was admitted back after the cardiac arrest. Further details about her last rites are expected soon.
 
Born into a Tamil Iyengar Brahmin family and Hailing from Melukote (a village in then Mysore state and now Karnataka), Jayalalithaa rose to stardom as an actress featuring in over 140 films across all South Indian languages. She was the highest paid Indian actress from 1965-1980.
 
Jayalalithaa later forayed into active politics with the influence of MG Ramachandran. Jayalalithaa served as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu state for five times representing AIADMK party. She is the third Chief Minister besides CN Annadurai & MG Ramachandran who passed away while serving as chief ministers.
