Journey to US Top 10

Oopiri has recently entered the list of the ten most successful movies in the United States. This is the second week since Oopiri released and it is no surprise to either the fans of Nagarjuna or the movie pundits that it is doing so well and earning big profits both in the Telugu states and in foreign countries as well. The movie has made a total of one and half million dollars abroad already and is expected to continue doing well. The movie is just behind Bhale Bhale Magadivoi and Aagadu in terms of success and its run at the box office will probably be determined by how well Sardaar Gabbar Singh does at the foreign market.
Story and development

Oopiri is the story of a quadriplegic man Vikram Aditya who is a billionaire and runs a big company. He is aided by his secretary Keerthi, played by Tamannah and is looking for a jolly and cheerful caretaker who can bring in excitement and fun into his otherwise bland and monotonous life. This is where the character Seenu played by Karthi comes in. Seenu is an ex convict who is out on parole and is disowned by his mother. He wants some kind of work that will make other people see him a good light. After interviewing dozens of candidates and being thoroughly unimpressed by almost all of them, Vikram chooses Seenu due to his carefree nature and liveliness. As Seenu joins work, he is not only awed by the huge palace of Vikram Aditya but also Keerthi. Slowly Seenu’s help and support changes Vikram’s life around however their personal problems crop up and the movie revolves around how both of them deal with their problems and still continue to support each other in life.
Initially it was N.T. Rama Rao who was chosen for the role of Seenu during the early stages of the development process. However it is rumored that NTR left the project for unknown reasons. Rumors suggest that he didn’t want to upset his family member Nandamuri Balakrishna who is a big star himself and has had various conflicts and differences with Nagarjuna in the past. It was then that Karthi was roped in. This was the first time in recent years that two such highly reputed actors from both the Telugu and Tamil industry came together and shared the screen space in the same project. The film was also supposed to star Shruti Hassan however she walked out because the dates clashed with other commitments. Her replacement Tammanah has done a commendable job in the movie and one thing for sure, people in India deserve more such well meaning films with significantly beautiful storylines.
