Born in a town called Phagwara in Punjab son of Kewal Kishen Singh and Satwant Kaur, was recognised as the most handsome actor in Bollywood in his earlier days of his film career. At present, he is a member of the 14th Lok Sabha of India and also represents the Bikaner constituency of Rajasthan and is also a member of the BJP political party. He is considered as one of the biggest Bollywood superstars of his times and was recently bestowed the Lifetime achievement award for his contribution to Indian cinema.

He has appeared in more than 200 Hindi films since 1960 and rose to fame as a Punjabi actor. He is the only actor who has been featured with almost all the members of the Kapoor family except Kareen Kapoor and Prithviraj Kapoor.

Dharmendra has given some of the biggest hits in the Bollywood industry and is known to be the living legend in the industry. From a good looking handsome actor he soon became to be known as the ‘He-Man’ when he started giving blockbusters from 1962 till 1995 as the lead hero.dhamendra

Days in Indian Film Industry

He was first signed by Arjun Hingorani for the film Dil Bhi Tera, Hum Bhi Tere when he got observed in a film fare spot the talent contest. Like every other person, he too came to Mumbai to fulfil his dream to be an actor.

In the initial days of his career, he usually acted as a romantic hero and later in the year 1972 he used to play the role of action protagonist. He has worked with numerous lead actresses like Nutan, Mala Sinha, Saira Banu, Meena Kumari, Hema Malini and many more. The list of actresses is endless. Even though he has acted with so many actresses his on-screen chemistry with Hema Malini, Zeenat Aman, Ashs Parekh, Sharmila Tagore had made a great impact amongst the fans.

He was voted amid the seven most handsome men in the world at the peak of his film career. He loved exercising and thus gave him a physique that his generation could only dream of. In the film ‘Phool aur Paththar’, he was declared as the ‘He-Man’ of the film industry because of his role and to support that role he had a great physique. For today’s generation of Bollywood stars he is considered as the macho man and is a great inspiration for the actors of today’s Indian film industry.

The recent success of his two films ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana- Part 1 & 2’ under his home banner has made him even more committed to it. As per Dharmendra, he is keen in doing essential roles which he can do in his home production but if he is offered such essential roles from others he won’t hesitate to them too.

His enormous contribution to the film industry certainly makes him the most worthy man of the epoch.
