Daagudu Moothalu story at a glance

B.Saroja Devi’s success streak continued with Daagudumoothalu. Prominent witty writer Mullapudi Venkataramana began his writing career with this film. As Adurthi Subbarao was busy with Mooga Manusulu then, this film was delayed. In the mean time, Mullapudi worked for Sr.NTR starrer Rakta Ssambandham and it was released before Daagudumoothalu. Atmabalam which released on Sankranthi day in the year 1964 established ANR-B.Saroja as a hit pair. Daagudumoothalu released later in the year and made Sr.NTR- B.Saroja pair highly successful too.

Story Details:
Vishwasundara Rao (Gummadi) is an affluent gentleman. He deserts his son who marries against the formers consent. By the time Vishwasundara Rao realizes what he did, he loses his son and daughter in law. The couple’s son Sundarayya (Sr.NTR) is raised as an orphan despite being the grandson of a rich family. He earns his living by establishing a coffee hotel in the same town as his grandfather. Vishwasundara Rao’s relatives eye the richness of the former. His distant relatives Bhushanam (Ramana Reddy) along with his daughter Sarada (Sarada) along with Suramma (Suryakantham) and her son (Padmanabham) from the other side arrive in the house. They irritate Vishwasundara Rao a lot thereby making him spoil his health. Meanwhile Subbulu (B.Saroja) escapes from her house in order to avoid an unwanted wedding. She dramatically takes shelter in Sundarayya’s house. They both fall in love. After some days, Subbulu gets a job to take care of Vishwasundarayya in the bunglow. She looks at Sundarayya’s parents photos in the bedroom and realizes that her husband is the grandson of Vishwasundara Rao. She brings the grandfather- grandson together. Vishwasundara Rao sadly dies after looking at his grandson. Sundarayya and Subbulu fight over the evil relatives and teach them a lesson. The film ends on a happy note with their wedding.

Sr.NTR is excellent as Sundarayya with typical body language and appearance. He does a great job in emotional scenes. B.Saroja is beautiful as well as balanced in her acting. She shares a great chemistry with her co-star Sr.NTR. Gummadi is believable as Vishwasundarayya who has various shades in his characterization. Ramana Reddy, Sarada, Suryakantham and Padmanabham are perfect in their respective roles.

Technical Aspects:
Mullapudi Ramana’s competent writing makes the film quite strong in entertainment value. He proves to be a phenomenal writer in the first film itself.  K.V.Mahadevan’s melodious music is an asset with songs like ‘Gorinka Gootiki Cheravo Chilaka’,’ Adagaka Ichina Manase Muddhu’, ‘Mella Mella Mellaga’,’ Devudane Vaadunnada’, ‘Yenkocchindhoi Mama’,’ Andalam Ekkadamma’ became super hits.  Adurthi Subba Rao proved once again that he is a master of family dramas with great directional skills.
