Audience Not at all Soukhyam

Plot:

Srinivasulu aka Seenu (Gopichand), a commoner instantly falls in love with Shailaja (Regina), the daughter of PR (Devan), a big kingpin in Kolkata. Bavoji (Pradeep Rawat), a local don wants to get married to his son. Unable to tackle Seenu, Bavuji smartly traps and fires him onto PR. Seenu to get married who manages to free Shailu struggles to convince his doting father Ranga Rao (Mukesh Rishi). How Seenu convinced his father and what did he do to win Shailu’s hand forms the rest of the plot.

Performances:

Gopichand: He was smart but in spite of being the hero, his character has no substance. For name sake, this promising crowd puller has been unfortunately misused for songs and fights alone.

Regina Cassandra: You need a heroine beside the hero and hence Regina. That’s it!

Pradeep Rawat: He has been detained to the role of a clown rather than a baddie he is supposed to be.

Devan: Despite the heavy buildup, even his character is stalk less and he has been under-utilized.

Now coming to the comedy gang –

30yrs Industry Prithvi: The Baahubali parody has indeed worked. He along with Krishna Bhagavan, Jyothi & others were hilarious in the film.

Posani: He was an absolute delight to watch. His track with Gopichand, Sudarshan, Sowcar Janaki in the first half an hour of the film was truly hilarious.

While Saptagiri was under-utilized in the film, Brahmi’s bland comedy towards the end of the film rather went overboard.

Analysis:

Gopichand scored a hit after a long while in the name of Loukyam. Perhaps he was succumbed to this formula and Ravi Kumar Chowdary (the man who gave him his first hit Yagnam) directing it, Gopichand might have been carried away.

This is the story of Sreedhar Seepana, the man behind Loukyam but we wonder ‘where’s the story?’

Yes, we know this is a commercial family entertainer with a guy loves a girl, brings her into his family or enters her family, fools the villain gang and then ends the story. But in Loukyam, besides the run-of-the-mill story, Prithvi’s ‘Boiling Star’ episode and Brahmi-Chandra Mohan (Puppy-Sippi) comedy track saved the film and Soukyam exactly lacks such an episode that can come to its rescue.

Well unfortunately these are the days, a film story had to completely bank upon couple of comedy track to fare well at the box-office and writers had to resort to mere parodies of some previous blockbusters (But the hard truth is that people are already tired of Baahubali & Srimanthudu spoofs!).

Soukyam has no merit in its story and when you are at least looking for a time pass affair, some clichéd spoofs and overboard insipid comedy challenge your endurance levels. Now screenplay by the director Ravikumar Chowdary & additional screenplay by mavericks Kona & Gopi undoubtedly go in vain. The plot is so predictable and the execution flimsy. On top of it, Gopichand has been unfortunately limited to dances and fight sequences just like the heroine – what else should the audiences look out for?

Especially the climax is a huge let down which once again proves that even a star comedian like Brahmanandam can do no wonders without sheer content!

Merits:
Comedy of Posani, Prithvi & Co.
Prasad Murella’s Cinematography

De-merits:
Routine story suffering from some terrible writing.

Music:

The run-of-the-mill album by Anup Rubens has no significance in the film.

Others:

Prasad Murella’s cinematography was decent.

Verdict:

Soukyam is a poorly made film with nothing worth watching except for a few gags here and there! Even after reading this, if you are ready to compromise and watch the film for those comedy episodes, good luck ahead!
