It was a very festive day for all of us because it was the eve of Sri Rama Navami and temples were filled with devotees. In this process, songs related to Lord Rama were also played and one famous number is ‘Bhadrasailamandira’. This song was played across many TV channels but here is a small twist.

The noted lyricist Sirasri came up with a post which is catching attention. Here is the gist in English of what he wrote- ‘I am seeing the song ‘Bhadrasaila rajamandira…’ song across many channel. This is nice to hear but in that the line goes ‘Bhadrasaila Rajamandira! O Ramachandra! Bahumadhya Vilasitendriyaa’. In chorus voice, this is being heard more clearly. Fact is, it should be ‘Vilasita+Indra = Vilasitendira’. Indira means Lakshmi and the essence is ‘someone who has kept Lakshmi in his heart lying between his shoulders’. Since Lakshmi Devi resides at the heart of Lord Vishnu, the poet has written with that meaning. But a rolling fumbles in the song, the forgetfulness by showing it without correction is changing the total meaning of the first para. Singing it as ‘Vilasitendriya’ is completely wrong. Since the record cannot be changed, let us wish the singers render the correct version while crooning onstage.”
