Maestro Ilaiyaraaja’s decision to boycott the National Award ceremony (to receive his National Award in Background Score category for Tharai Thappattai) has triggered off heated discussions across various forums.
However Ilayaraaja’s brother Gangai Amaran (popular film personality) has remarked Ilaiyaraaja’s decision of boycotting the awards ceremony as an indignified one.He commented that Ilaiyaraaja indeed let down the entire Tamil community by not attending the event. Interestingly, Ganagai Amaran was the jury member of the National Awards Committee.
Meanwhile, Ilaiyaraaja literally lashed out the concept of separating background score & music in terms of recognition. He opined that it is in turn humiliation for any music director to get award in one segment which indirectly implies that the music director failed in the other.
Well this is indeed the burning topic in music circles with support increasing to both the versions. Let us wait for further reactions on this issue!
