Gautham Menon’s heroines area always greatly known for their strong characterizations in every film of his. He also has the credit of introducing talented actresses to the film industry such as Samantha Ruth Prabhu. Now, he has introduced the Malayalam beauty Manjima Mohan in his upcoming film Saahasam Swaasaga Saagipo starring Naga Chaitanya. After quite much of delay, the film is all set to release in this month and here is an iQlik exclusive chitchat with the actress:
Hello Manjima.. how are you!
Hi.. I am doing good!

Did you face any pressure because of the film’s delay getting so long?
Not at all. I did my best for the film and the delay is due to many other reasons. Saahasam Swaasaga Saagipo is a great film and its buzz is still going on because of Gautham Menon’s popularity. Many of the youngsters like his films and the content is important more than the film’s release timing.

How did you get the offer?
I acted in Malayalam film Oru Vadakkan Selfie with Nivin Pauly last year and the trailer was watched by Gautham Menon. Even without watching the film, he called me for this offer. It was like a dream come true for me to have a debut film in Tamil with Gautham sir. I used to tell my friends that one day I would act in Gautham sir’s films and I am glad I did. It is really an unforgettable moment.

Do you watch Telugu films?  Did you watch any of Gautham’s films earlier?
Of course. I saw almost every Gautham sir’s film earlier and I am a huge fan. In Telugu I watched Manam, Baahubali and Eega.

How do you find Telugu film industry?
Saahasam Swaasaga Saagipo was supposed to be done in Tamil alone first but later came into Telugu. Initially, I didn’t agree to work in Telugu because of the language problem and I didn’t know a bit of it. However, I was comfortable with Tamil because I studied in Chennai. But Gautham sir spoke to my Dad and convinced him that I can comfortably act in Telugu. After one day of the shooting, I lost the fear on language. I also had an assistant director for my Telugu and I am glad to have overcome the fear of language.

Your working experience with Naga Chaitanya?
He is a down to earth individual. During the film’s shooting he got the offer to act in Premam and he was so considerate that he asked me an advice whether to accept it or not.I told him to readily accept the offer because the film is that good. For his stature, there is no need for him to ask an opinion from me. He is a great co-star.

Please tell us about your character in this film?
It is not an extraordinary character but an essential girl next door. Somewhere, the audience will really admire my role for its realistic aspect.

What are your priorities in acting career?
I am not looking for roles where the duration takes a front seat. Though it is a small role, the substance should speak more. These days, many heroines have changed their attitude by accepting those roles which are not just confined to glamour. I already heard some stories in Telugu which are female oriented but couldn’t accept because of dates. It is great to see Telugu film industry speaking on small films such as Pelli Choopulu which proves that the content is important than budgets or star value.

You completed your graduation in Bsc Mathematics. Are you planning for further studies?
I actually gave a word to my Dad that I would study while I work in movies but I am forced to break it now. I am totally involved in movies now and I understood that it is tough to balance both.

Was it thrilling to have AR Rahman score for your first film?
Yeah. I am a huge fan of AR Rahman and ever since this film’s audio is out, I have been hearing only to these songs.

Any interesting aspect of Gautham Menon’s working style?
He gives lot of freedom to the actor. He doesn’t influence the actor with his own opinions and as of me, he told me to act in a scene in my own way. If he liked it, he approved of it otherwise used to give feedback.

Upcoming movies?
I am doing three movies in Tamil as of now and in Telugu I haven’t accepted anything.

Okay.. thanks and wish you the best for your debut film!
Thanks a lot!
