The formula of taking hit movies from other languages and remaking them is quite common and the main reason for that is the belief about the script. Since it has proved itself at the box office, the remake team feels it would work in their local language. While that is true to a certain extent, there is always a hitch.
If the storyline is not matching the nativity it could bring trouble. Right now a remake is happening in Telugu and it is of the Bollywood movie ‘2 States’ which had Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. The Telugu version has the handsome hunk Adivi Sesh with Shivani Rajasekhar in the lead. This is being helmed by a debutante Venkat Reddy.
While the original was a love story between a proper Punjabi and an orthodox Tamil Brahmin girl, many are now waiting to see what is going to be the backdrop for the Telugu version. If it is going to be two different states the execution has to be convincing. If it is just two different regions in the Telugu states it would be old bread because such things have come before. Let us wait and watch.
