Controversial Poster: Netflix Issues A Public Apology

Netflix, the popular online streaming service, has issued a public apology for releasing controversial posters of their upcoming film 'Cuties', an English remake of French movie Mignonnes. The row erupted after Netflix released some posters sexualising young girls. Netizens have demanded ban on the film which won 'Best Directing Award—Dramatic' at Sundance Film Festival. Some netizens have even went on to file petition against Netflix.


Cuties is the story of an 11-year old traditional Senegalese Muslim girl who gets caught between traditional values and Internet culture. With a view to seeking freedom, she joins a dance group which is teenage girls aged between 11 and 15. Recently, Netflix released a few posters which caused huge controversy on Internet for skimpy outfits of girls and showing teenage girls in a totally provocative way. Having understood the wrath of netizens, Netflix has pulled down the posters and issued an apology.


"We're deeply sorry for the inappropriate artwork that we used for Mignonnes/Cuties. It was not OK, nor was it representative of this French film which won an award at Sundance. We’ve now updated the pictures and description." - Netflix said in an official post on Twitter.
