The trend of remake films is going on in Tollywood for a long time.  Several remake movies are on the sets and many other remakes are in the planning stage. Though the star heroes are keen on playing a safe game with the remake films, the trade analysts are of the opinion that the OTT players are damaging the prospects of remake films.

With the closure of theatres for the past five months, the popularity of OTTs have increased by leaps and bounds.  New subscriber base have been added to all the leading OTT players.  The majority of the youth have OTT apps on their smart phones.  They are watching all the other language films with the help of English subtitles.

The source for the Telugu remakes is usually from Tamil.  They also focus on other langauges like Hindi, Malayalam and some times Kannada.  Now, the majority of the audience except the rural population are habituated to watching the other language films on OTTs.

If we have a look at the remakes chosen by our Telugu filmmakers recently, the majority of the audience have watched their originals long back.  In case of remake films earlier, the original movies were not available to the common audience unles they arewell aware of the piracy sites and torrents.  Now the situatin has been changed that the original film is available at their finger tips.

It is decreasing the curiosity on the remake movie.  Some trade analysts opine that 'Jaanu' suffered from the same issue becaue the majority of the audiene watched the original '96' movie multiple times.  Some of analysts say that OTT players are giving a deathblow to the remake films.
