For the last few days, it is being heavily rumoured that Thalapathy Vijay's Varisu is a remake or a sequel to a Telugu film. Since the reports went viral on social media, there were many speculations built around the movie. Finally, the film's producer Dil Raju opened up about the rumours.

Speaking at the pre-release event of Varisu last night in Chennai, Dil Raju said that the film is neither a sequel nor a remake. He said that it is a fresh story that will primarily appeal to family audiences. He said that the families will thoroughly enjoy Varisu during the Pongal festive season.

After Dil Raju's clarification, fans are now highly excited about the movie. Directed by Vamshi Paidipally, Varisu features Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead. It will hit the screens on January 12, 2023. It will have a simultaneous release in Telugu as Vaarasudu. Thaman is composing the music fo it.
