Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan conducted a high-profile inspection of Kakinada Port today, reigniting his allegations of illegal rice transportation through the facility. This visit marked a significant step in his campaign to expose and address what he claims is a widespread issue.

SP’s Absence Raises Questions

During the inspection, Pawan Kalyan expressed concerns over the absence of the district Superintendent of Police (SP), who was reportedly on leave during this critical investigation. “Why is the SP absent on such an important occasion?” he questioned, hinting at possible irregularities.

Reinforcing Election Campaign Allegations

Accompanied by State Food and Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar, Pawan Kalyan toured a large ship allegedly used for rice smuggling. Speaking to the media afterward, he stated that his long standing accusations, made during the election campaign, had been validated by the discovery of thousands of tons of smuggled rice.

“Today’s findings confirm that illegal activities are taking place at Kakinada Port. This is no longer speculation; it’s proven fact,” he declared.

Criticism of Negligence by Officials

The Deputy Chief Minister did not hold back in his criticism of the port’s administration and the relevant government departments. He accused officials from the police, revenue, and civil supplies departments of turning a blind eye to the illegal activities, describing their actions as “superficial” and inadequate.

“Kakinada Port has become a free-for-all, with rampant smuggling operations. Even when Minister Nadendla Manohar has taken steps to seize smuggled rice and file cases, the response from officials remains lackluster and negligent,” Pawan remarked.

Impact of the Inspection

The inspection and Pawan Kalyan’s comments are likely to stir political debate and increase scrutiny of Kakinada Port’s operations. With the seizure of significant quantities of rice, the government may face mounting pressure to tighten regulations and take stronger action against those involved in smuggling activities.

This inspection underscores Pawan Kalyan’s commitment to tackling corruption and ensuring accountability, a stance that has been a hallmark of his political career. Whether this will lead to tangible changes in Kakinada Port’s administration remains to be seen.
