Dikkulu Choodaku Ramayya - Refreshingly Experimental

Dikkulu Choodaku Ramayya is an upcoming romantic entertainer starring Oohalu Gusagusalade fame Naga Shourya, Ajay and Sana Maqbool in the lead roles. The film is produced by Sai Korrapati and music is composed by M.M.Keeravani. Here is an iQlik exclusive audio review of the album:

The album begins with a funkiest track Dintana sung by Rahul Sipligunj with good vigor and ease. The track has a wonderful jazzy feel and contemporary touch added with local flavor. The first track of the album itself makes it evident that M.M.Keeravani’s style has evolved differently! A special mention for peculiar story telling lyrics by Ananth Sriram should be definitely made.

The funky flavor is continued with Chembistry equipped with modern digital sounds and recurring rhythm section. In the midst of Rap lyrics, the track progresses in a very peculiar fashion with modern genre blends like Industry and House mix.  Interestingly, this song also has the story telling nature which makes the album quite different from its contemporaries.

Thelipothunna is an interesting female solo which has unique orchestration and singing by Ramya Behara makes it even more peculiar. The song has a monologue kind of feel to it, which is one of its kind in Telugu Cinema till date.

The album goes to melodious mode with Anthe Premanthe composed in the evergreen Carnatic Raaga Kaapi with modern touches and orchestration.  The mild strings, syncopated rhythm and competent singing make it a pleasurable hearing.

Andari Rathalu is a folksy track with a great philosophical touch.  Composed in eternal Carnatic Raaga Mohanam, the composition is mellowed yet impactful on the ears with wonderful orchestration. Renowned Carnatic Singer Mahesh Vinayakaram sings the folksy track with great ease and perfection.

It is time for the finale title track Dikkulu Choodaku with paced up orchestration and digital sequencing in the midst of local percussions. The trance beats blend well with the local percussions and talented singer Kalpana does her best in lower octave voice.

Verdict:

Dikkulu Choodaku Ramayya is a new age experimental album from M.M.Keeravani. The composer tries to present different tracks with great ease and confidence, without tampering the Telugu Nativity and feel.
