'Spiritual Musical Journey'- Yevade Subrahmanyam Audio Review

Yevade Subramnayam is an upcoming entertainer starring Nani and Malavika Nair in lead roles. Music for the film is composed by Andala Rakshasi fame Radhan. The film is directed by newcomer Nag Ashwin. Here is an iQlik exclusive audio review of the album:

The interesting album begins with Beautiful Zindagi in the midst of laid back rhythm, funky sounds and sultry voice of Nikitha Gandhi. The lyrics speak of optimism and hope in life and fun moments. The modern jazz sounding of the track makes it instantly likeable.

It is time for the title track Yevade Subrahmanyam with interesting House mix sequencing coupled with laid back vocals of Ramy. The track suddenly gathers pace with rap vocals and electronic sounds with good usage of desi instrument harmonium as well. The lyrics make sure that the track makes best use of presenting a peculiar hero in style.

Nuvvu Nuvvu Kadhu is a party number which surprisingly speaks about the inner meaning of self with respect to lyrics. The gripping rhythm, trumpets and fun presentation makes it an enjoyable listening. The rap vocals are neatly projected and balance out the lead vocals.

Contrastingly, the next track Oh Kala sung by talented Harini is completely laid back with lilting guitar, neat chord progression and great carnatic touch in terms of the tune. This track definitely stands out unique in the album for the unpretentious presentation. The interludes are essentially western classical blended with carnatic violin with a nostalgic touch.

The laid back style continues with Idhera by the supremely talented Mohit Chauhan. Despite the contemporary orchestration, the track retains the Indian melody with mesmerizing ease and brilliance in the form of sitar touches. The bass work is quite impressive and lyrics speak of musical realization and living life to the fullest!

Now, the finale presents something quite unexpected track Challa Gali Thaakuthunna which is a rehash from Ilaiyaraaja’s eternal Tamil composition ‘Thendral Vanthu’.  The piano touches are novel and modern for this version. The track has a trance like feel to it and it is brilliantly presented. However, it is not a match to the original with respect to the vocals.

Verdict:
Yevade Subrahmanyam is a one of its kind album which speaks of life’s journey in musical terms. Radhan must be appreciated for giving an album which has the balance of commercial as well as classy standards.
