Tagline: Can watch it for Dhanush & Trisha!

Plot:

Murali, father of twins Yogi (Dhanush) and Dharma (Dhanush) sacrifices his life fighting against a hazardous Mercury factory in a village.Yogi pledges to be a leader fulfilling his dad’s wish. On the other hand Rudra (Trisha) also aspires to be a politician. Yogi and Rudra are lovers on a personal front but opponents politically. Taking heads on in a local election brings unexpected changes in theirrespective lives and Yogi’s twin brother Dharma sets out on revenge. How did Dharma succeed with his revenge plans forms the rest of the story.

Performances:

Dhanush: This exceptional actor pulls off a dual role with ease and elegance. And the two characters Yogi, Dharma & their disparity didn’t seem like a challenge to him. He charms us with both the roles striking a sizzling chemistry with Trisha.

Trisha: You’ll get to see one of her career’s best performances in this film – certainly the best in recent times. Trisha Vs Dhanush was an interesting contest throughout the film. Wishing her more such roles ahead!

Anupama Parameshwaran: She plays a brief yet amusing character in the film. Anupama looked much younger beside Dhanush but she gets to entertain within the limits of her character.
The rest of the cast played significant roles in this political drama.

Analysis:

RaghuvaranB.tech earned Dhanush a following in Telugu market setting an expectation for ‘a Dhanush film’ at the same time. And much according to the expectations, Dhanush has delivered a commercial entertainer catering to the masses as well. Now what’s impressive is that this commercial entertainer has good story with strong characterizations. Anchoring the plot set in a political backdrop with his characters Yogi and Rudra, the way director Durai Senthil Kumar narrated this political drama was rather appealing.

He could strike a fine balance between the entertainment quotient and engagement quotient especially in the first half. The equations between Dhanush-Trisha, Dhanush-Anupama, the twin brothers and all other characters were well written driving the story forward. It is a sheer engaging first half with a brilliant twist in the pre-interval block. Well the second half gets intensified and the director was busy taking the story forward unfurling the suspense, thereby ignoring the entertainment factor. However, the sheer brilliance in the performances keeps you glued throughout this political drama. The twists and turns though out the film with few highs (Especially in the second half) make the narrative admirable.

Now what you are likely to miss are exclusive comedy tracks, mass romantic numbers and perhaps high-voltage action too. But if you ask us, Dharma Yogi is a must watch for Dhanush & Trisha’s performance!

Merits:

- Lead cast performances especially Dhanush, Trisha, Anupama
- Strong characterization
- Good story and screenplay
- Music and background score

De-merits:

- Lack of comedy especially in the second half.

Music:

Santosh Narayanan’s music met the needs of the script (though decelerating the narrative at times). However unlike his earlier films, the background score sounded a bit run-of-the-mill – just like a regular commercial film needs!

Others:

Nothing special to mention.

Verdict:

Dharma Yogi is a gripping political drama that boasts of its lead cast performances. If a routine comedy entertainer is not you expect, this can be a worthy pick for you this Diwali.
