Director Shankar served with a non-bailable warrant

Director Shankar's 2010 film Endhiran, starring Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai was a huge blockbuster at the box office. It was a spectacle which was never witnessed before on the Indian screen. However, a Tamil Nadu writer alleged that Shankar copied his story and filed a case on the filmmaker. Now, a non-bailable warrant is issued against the director regarding the same.

When Endhiran had hit the screen, a writer named Arur Tamilnadan alleged that the film is ripped off from his short story Jiguba which was published in Iniya Udhayam magazine in 1996. The same story was re-published as a novel called Dhik Dhik Dheepika in 2007, three years prior to Endhiran's release. Arur claimed that the makers earned crores by stealing his idea. Shankar challenged the petition in Supreme Court last year. However, his petition was dismissed.

Now, the case is going on in Metropolitan Magistrate Court–II, Egmore. Till now, the director hasn't appeared before the magistrate. Thus, the court has served him with the non-bailable warrant and adjourned the next hearing to February 19.
