Key decision on OTT releases by Producers Council

Telugu film producers council, on Wednesday, passed a new mandate about new OTT deals for upcoming theatrical releases. It's a unanimous decision taken by producers council that will come into effect from 1st July. The theatrical releases which enter into agreement with OTT partners should ensure a window of 50 days before streaming it online. This rule will be applicable to all small and big budget films.

Considering the impact of OTT on all the recent theatrical releases, Telugu movie producers have come to this decision. The early release on Amazon Prime or Netflix or Hotstar is certainly leading to very low footfalls in the theatres. Also, it is affecting the popularity of star heroes. During a recent film event, ace producer Allu Aravind and Mythri Movies Ravi have mentioned about how the OTT releases have become a big pain to theatrical business.

It remains to be seen how the new decision by the producers council will turn out - can we expect a spike in footfalls!? On the other hand, medium and low budget movie producers have been announcing flat ticket prices and are not willing to avail the ticket price hikes.
