Ala Modalaindi story at a glance

John (Ashish Vidyarthi) is a contract killer. He once kidnaps Gautam (Nani) and in their journey, Gowtham narrates his love story to John. Gowtham works for a News Channel. He meets Nitya (Nitya Menon) in a marriage and falls for her. Later he comes to know that Nitya was already engaged to Chaitanya. What happened to their love story? Who is John and why he kidnapped Gowtham forms the actual story.

    Ala Modalaindi is the debut movie of Nandini Reddy. She managed to impress audience before the release with creative posters and beautiful songs. The movie when released was a silent hit backed by superb mouth talk. This can be considered as the biggest hit of 2011 when considered the Return of Investment.

    • Nani and Nitya Menon paired up for the first time for Ala Modalaindi.
    • Sneha Ullal played a key role in the movie.
    • This is the debut movie for director Nandini Reddy. She was a director aspirant from Little Soldiers time (1996). She worked in the direction department of the movie as well. So, she had to wait 15 long years to wield the megaphone.
    • Ramesh played the character of a drunkard in the movie. The role was a super hit and since then he is being called ‘Thagubothu Ramesh’ and he did similar kind of roles in several movies later on.
  • Sidelights

    • Nandini Reddy approached Nani with this subject through Anjana Ali Khan, a common friend of both. Later Anjana also directed Sega with Nani.
    • The movie was titled ‘Prema Thokka Tholu’ during the scripting phase.
    • The director herself admitted that she drew inspiration from few scenes in Hollywood movies like Friends, When Harry Met Sally, Scrat, A Lot Like Love and In July.
