Shivaranjani story at a glance

Shivaranjani is a unique which film which showcases the life of showbiz and celebrities, their glitz and glamour externally and their troubles, emotions, disappointments, failures, and so on in their respective personal lives. It can be a noteworthy film for Dasari as a director and Jayasudha as an actress. Dasari has used all his stage drama experience in writing this gripping drama on silver screen. Mohan Babu’s negative role was another highlight of the film. Hariprasad, who was a roommate of Chiranjeevi in acting school days acted well as a huge fan of actress Shivaranjani in the film.

Story Details:
Shivaranjani (Jayasudha) is a village woman who sells ektaras in to the people there.  Mohan (Mohan Babu) goes behind her claiming that he loves her. He fakes to her saying he is a rich guy and brings her to Madras. He gives accommodation to her in Satyam (Gokina Ramarao)’s residence who does the role of extras in movies. Shivaranjani soon realizes the true colors of Mohan and understands he is a cheat. In a difficult situation, she happens to become a heroine. She reaches to great heights as an actress and distances herself from Mohan. But Mohan blackmails her whenever in need of money. As a result, Shivaranjani’s life becomes like a hell. Despite having money, fame- her peace of mind, good sleep, love and affection are lost. It is when she arrives in Godavari area for shooting and a Hari (Hariparsad) , a huge fan of her rescues her from an accident. He even proposes to her but Shivaranjani tells her past to him. She explains the troubles of a glitz filled celebrity. Hari realizes the truth and marries his maradalu (Subhashini). Shivaranjani resumes her simple living once again. It is interesting to see ANR, Savitri and Shaavukaru Janaki act as themselves in this film.

Performances:
Jayasudha is excellent in the title role Shivaranjani with contrasting looks and expressions for village woman and later a big star. Her natural expressions are an asset for this role and she excels in sentimental scenes. Her portrayal of a typical female celebrity who gets caught between the reel life and real life was done brilliantly. Mohan Babu is at his negative best for the role of Mohan. His character is a realistic example of how people cheat vulnerable women. Hari is good as the huge fan of Shivaranjani.  Allu Ramalingaiah and K.V.Chalam offer good comedy relief.

Technical Aspects:
Dasari has thorough understanding of the emotional quotient of celebrities who have a tough time in coping up fame and internal yearning for love and affection. This fact was brilliantly portrayed by him through dialogues, screenplay and story. His direction is at his dramatic best but never overdone. Music by Ramesh Naidu is amazing with some all time hits like Joru Meedhunnavu Thummeda, Navami Naati Vennela becoming all time hits. A very special mention for the evergreen hit Abhinava Taaravo which became so popular those days. This film was remade in Tamil as Nakshatram starring Sripriya in the role of Jayasudha.
