Samarasimha Reddy story at a glance
Samarasimha Reddy marks the commercial beginnings of Rayalaseema Backdrop films in Telugu Cinema. Though there were films like Antahpuram and Preminchukundam Raa which arrived on similar themes earlier, Samarasimha Reddy was a definition of Commercial Entertainer in the backdrop of Factionists and Rayalaseema region. It was literally a comeback film for Balakrishna in mid 90s who was looking for a groundbreaking hit.
Story Details:
The film begins with Abbulu (Balakrishna) who tries his best to join in a hotel as a worker which is run by a cruel lady (Jayachitra) who tortures three sisters. Chittemma (Simran) has a hotel opposite to this hotel and they have a business rift. Abbulu solves the hotel’s problems and reveals to these sisters that he is none other than their brother Vasu who runs away during their childhood. Meanwhile, Veera Ragahva Reddy (Jayaprakash Reddy) from Rayalaseema region is paralyzed and dreams of seeking his vengeance on Samara Simha Reddy who is the reason for his condition. He sends his daughter Anjali (Anjala Jhaveri) to seek vengeance as his sons are unsuccessful in the task. The story takes a twist when Anjali reveals that Abbulu is none other than Samara Simha Reddy in hiding. Rest of the story is about the comeback of Abbulu and his lifestyle in Rayalaseema region.
Performances:
Balakrishna adorns two different roles at ease- One of the free spirited Abbulu and the other of Rayalseema factionist Samara Simha Reddy. However it is the role of Samara Simha Reddy he delivers par excellence. His punch dialogues became a rage when the film released and his attire clad in white shirt and trouser- the typical factionist look became talk of the town. Simran is alright as the female lead and was more confined to song appearances. Anjala Jhaveri gets a memorable role of a lady who seeks revenge on the hero, yet loves him. Jayaprakash Reddy gets a brilliant role of the bad factionist and he does a great job. Kota Srinivasa Rao, Satyanarayana, Jayachitra, Brahmanandam and so on bagged some important roles in the film.
Technical Aspects:
Story by K.V.Vijayendra Prasad has its share of suspense and breathtaking moments. Paruchuri Brothers dialogues worked wonders on screen with tremendous punch dialogues and power packed lines. V.S.R.Swami’s cinematography is very good especially in portraying the Rayalaseema region. Mani Sharma’s music is a biggest asset for the film with some foot tapping numbers and melodious songs. Andala Aadabomma song became one of the chartbusters in that year. B.Gopal’s direction is at the commercial hilt.
