Sipayi Chinnayya story at a glance
This is the first film of ANR which was produced by Ramanaidu. ANR is seen in the dual role – one being the captain and another is the army officer. Prominent cinematographer S.S.Lal’s work is like a lifeline fo this film. Great dancer L.Vijayalakshmi is seen in a special dance performance for one of the songs as well. Despite being already married by then, she performed as per Ramanaidu’s request on an item song ‘Are Mama Veskora Sukka’ sung by L.R.Eshwari.
The film deals with two contrasting lives – one being the captain of a ship (ANR-1) and another being Sipayi Chinnayya (ANR). The storyline deals with how they overcome their hardships in respective lives by being loyal to their professions. They both share great friendship and the story takes a turn when Sipayi Chinnayya comes in the captain’s position to teach a lesson to the attackers.
ANR did a decent job in two challenging roles such as Captain and title role Sipayi Chinnayya. Bharati is seen as the wife of Captain and shares a neat chemistry with the actor.K.R.Vijaya is wonderful as the wife of Sipayi Chinnayya.
Dialogues by Athreya and Bhamidipati Radhakrishna are good with dramatic value. Music by MSV is brilliant with the all time hit patriotic song ‘Na Janma Bhoomi’ being from this film. Other songs like Padava Vachindhe Pilla Pandaga Vachindhe, Naa Naava Daatipoyindhi became good hits. Despite being made with good production values the film was an average grosser.
